The Wolf Girl of Devil's River - TRUE STORY

In 1835, a group of American colonists, led by Dr. Charles Beale, were camped at Lake Espontosa, a renowned haunted location near what is now Carrizo Springs in southwest Texas. Half a mile away from the Beale group, John Dent and his pregnant wife Mollie Pertul Dent, both from Georgia, had built a brush cabin.  Dent had come to trap beaver in the Devil's River area, north of the present day Del-Rio, but was also on the run from the law for the murder of a fellow trapper in Georgia. The Dents were to prove fortunate in their choice of a site distant from the lake. A band of Commanches raided the main Beale camp and massacred most of the inhabitants, afterwards throwing the bodies of the victims and their carts into the lake.

A Haunted Location

Even at this time Espontosa Lake had acquired a reputation for ghostly goings-on, this incident adding to the store of ill-luck and sorrow centering on what, to this day Mexicans consider a haunted location, the name Espantosa meaning 'frightful'.

As Mollie was approaching the end of her pregnancy, the couple were reluctant to travel despite the danger of hostile Indians. One night in May 1835, there was a severe thunderstorm and Mollie went into labor. She appeared to be having problems with the birth so Dent decided to ride westwards for help. He arrived at a Mexican goat ranch on the Pecos Canyon, and told them desperately about his wife's condition, begging for someone to ride back with him.

But as the Mexicans prepared their horses to leave there was a furious crash of thunder and a bolt of lightning struck Dent from his horse killing him instantly. After a considerable delay the goat herders mounted up and followed Dent's directions. However, darkness fell before they had got over the divide to Devil's River, thus delaying the search. Finally, at sunrise the next morning they located the Dent's isolated cabin.

But what they found outside the cabin, in an open brush arbor, was Mollie Dent lying dead, alone. She had apparently died in childbirth, but there was no trace of the baby anywhere. The child was never found, but fang marks on the woman's body and numerous wolf tracks over the area made the goat herders naturally assume that the infant had either been devoured or carried off by lobo wolves.

First Sighting of the Wolf Girl

But this was just the beginning of the story. Ten years later, In 1845, a boy living at San Felipe Springs (Del-Rio) reportedly saw 'a creature, with long hair covering its features, that looked like a naked girl' attacking a herd of goats in the company of a pack of lobo wolves. The story was ridiculed by many, but still managed to spread back among the settlements. Around a year after this incident, a Mexican woman at San Felipe claimed she had seen two large wolves and an unclothed young girl devouring a freshly killed goat.  She approached close to the group, she said, before they saw her and ran off.

The woman noticed that the girl ran initially on all-fours, but then rose up and ran on two feet, keeping close to the wolves. The woman was in no doubt about what she had seen, and the scattering of people in the Devil's River country began to keep a sharp watch for the girl. There were similar reports by others in the region during the following year and Apache stories told of a child's footprints, sometimes accompanied by hand prints, having been found among wolf tracks in sandy places along the river. A hunt was organised to capture the 'Lobo (or Wolf) Girl of Devil's River' as she had now become known, comprising mainly Mexican vaqueros. On the third day of the hunt the naked girl was sighted near Espantosa Lake running with a pack of wolves.

The cowboys managed to separate the girl from her wolf companions and cornered her in a canyon, where she fought like a wildcat clawing and biting frantically to keep her freedom. They finally managed to lasso her to keep her still, but while they were tying her up she began to make frightening, unearthly sounds somewhere between the scream of a woman and the howl of a wolf. As she howled, the monster he-wolf from whom she'd become separated appeared and rushed at her captors. Fortunately one of the cowboys reacted quickly and shot it dead with a pistol, at which the wolf girl fell into a faint. Securely bound, the men were now able to examine the girl and noted that despite a body covered in hair and her wild mannerisms, her appearance was human. Her hands and arms were well muscled but not out of proportion, and she lacked the ability to speak, only making deep growling noises. She moved smoothly on all fours, but was rather awkward when made to stand up straight.

The girl was put on a horse and taken to the nearest ranch, an isolated two-roomed shack amid the desert wilderness. She was put in one of the rooms and unbound, the cowboys offering her a covering for her body and food and water, but she refused, cowering in the darkest corner. They then left her alone for the night, locking the door and posting a guard outside. The only other opening in the room was a small boarded up window.

Ghostly Cries

But as night fell the cowboys heard terrifying howls coming from the wolf girl's room. The strange cries carried through the still night air, unsettling her captors and soon finding answers from among the wolf pack in the wilderness beyond the shack. Soon there were long deep howls coming from all sides as the pack drew closer to the house, and occasionally strange howling screams from the girl answering them from inside her dark room. Suddenly the large pack of wolves charged into the corrals, attacking the goats, cows and horses and bringing the cowboys outside shooting and yelling to drive them away. In all the confusion the wolf girl managed to tear the planks from the window and escape into the night. The howls soon abated and the wolves crept back into the wilderness. The next day not a trace of the girl could be found.

Though there were a few unverified reports in the following years of a young hair-covered girl being seen with a wolf pack in the area, no one ever came in close contact with her. Meanwhile gold had been discovered in California and westward travel had increased significantly. In 1852 a surveying party of frontiersmen searching for a new route to El Paso were riding down to the Rio Grande at a  bend far above the mouth of Devil's River. They were almost at the water's edge when they saw at close range, sitting on a sand bar, a young woman suckling two wolf cubs. Suddenly she saw them, quickly grabbed the pups and dashed into the breaks at such a rate that it was impossible for the horsemen to follow.

The girl would have been seventeen years-old that year. After that she disappeared into the wilderness forever. It is impossible now to know what became of Mollie Dent's daughter, presuming that's who the wolf girl was. There were subsequent reports of 'human-faced' wolves in the area right up until the 1930s, and author L.D. Bertillion (see sources below), wrote in 1937, 'during the past forty years I have in the western country met more than one wolf face strongly marked with human characteristics'.

The Ghost of Devil's River

The story of the Wolf Girl of Devil's River reads more like a folktale than a real feral child case, and the large amount of  evidence for what happened is all anecdotal. She does, however, seem to live on in a more subtle form; her 'ghost' has apparently been seen in the old San Felipe Springs area beside the banks of Devil's River. In 1974 (the same year as the Delphos wolf girl in Kansas), a hunter in this area claimed to have seen  her again, in the form of a white apparition which vanished before his eyes.

Back in the autumn of1835, when John and Mollie Dent had newly arrived in Texas, Mollie wrote her mother an odd letter. It said merely -

'Dear Mother,
The Devil has a river in Texas that is all his own and it is made only for those who are grown.
Yours with love
Mollie'.

Smoking is bad for your LOOKS, now we have solid proof. See the effect on twins

The serious health concerns associated with smoking cigarettes have been widely documented for many years, but now a new study has provided shocking photographic evidence of the devastating effects that addiction can have on a person’s face.

Researchers interviewed more than 70 pairs of identical twins where one smoked and the other didn’t and found that smokers showed considerably more signs of premature facial aging.
The most significant impact was on the lower two-thirds of a person’s face where smoking had caused greater wrinkling of the lips and sagging jowls.

A professional photographer took standardized, close-up photographs of each twin's face. The twins also completed questionnaires regarding their medical and lifestyle histories
Without knowledge of the twins' smoking history, plastic surgeons then analyzed the twins' facial features, including grading of wrinkles and age-related facial features.

Scores on several measures of facial aging were significantly worse for the smokers.
The smokers had more sagging of the upper eyelids, as well as more bags of the lower eyelids and under the eyes.

Twins who smoked also had higher scores for facial wrinkles, including more pronounced nasolabial folds (lines between the nose and mouth), wrinkling of the upper and lower lips and sagging jowls.
Smoking reduces oxygen to the skin, which also decreases blood circulation, and that can result in weathered, wrinkled, older-looking skin, explains Dr. Bahman Guyuron, a plastic surgeon in Cleveland, Ohio, and the lead author of the study.

See what drinking water can do to your skin: Took 10 years of this woman's face

You might think I'd have little in common with a camel, but we do share one useful skill: both of us can go for a very long time without water.
Usually I start my day with a cup of tea, then I might have a glass of water with my lunch and one with dinner - that's about a litre of liquid in 24 hours. It feels like plenty, but apparently it's not nearly enough.

After years of suffering headaches and poor digestion I spoke to a neurologist about my regular headaches and a nutritionist about my poor digestion, and both told me I should be drinking up to three litres of liquid a day for my body to function at its best.

Then, when I read a recent survey suggesting that at least one in five women in the UK consumes less than the recommended daily intake of water, I decided to conduct an experiment. What would happen if I drank the recommended amount every day for a month?
The photograph of me taken the day I started this trial demonstrates perfectly - and rather frighteningly - what a lack of hydration does to a face.

I am 42, but have to admit I look more like 52 in this picture, which is shocking. There are dark shadows under and around my eyes, which make me look exhausted, a profusion of wrinkles and strange reddish blotches, and my skin lacks any lustre. It looks dead.
Even my lips look shrivelled. This is all classic evidence of poor hydration, apparently. Every system and function in our body depends on water.

It flushes toxins from the vital organs, carries nutrients to cells, provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues, and eliminates waste.
Not drinking enough means all these functions become impaired. So I decided to see how I would look and feel if I drank three litres of water every day for 28 days. The results were astonishing . . .

The pics that got Kanye hooked. Kim to become Kim Kardashian WEST

Kanye West has revealed that while he and new fiance Kim Kardashian only went public with their love in April 2012, he had his eye on her for much longer.

'I just knew I wanted her to be my girl for a long time,' he told an On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio interview on Tuesday, in which he also confirmed she will take his married name.
'I remember I saw a picture of her and Paris Hilton, and I remember telling my boy, 'Have you seen that girl Kim Kar-dijon?'"

The picture was taken in 2006, while Kim was known simply for being heiress HIlton's friend.
One sex tape, and a successful reality franchise later, Kim was the bigger star. And despite both having high profile relationships Kanye formed a strong friendship with his crush which eventually led to love.

During his lengthy chat Kanye also confirmed that Kim will take his name, and that he will wear a wedding ring after their nuptials. Kim also confirmed the plan, telling E News that she will be Kim Kardashian West after her marriage, with Kardashian being a middle name.

Now thats a guy in charge.

TRUE LIFE:My Mother Slept With My Fiance 3 months to my wedding

I am 25 years of age and still live with my parents at home. I won't describe my parents' marriage as ideal as my father is forever accusing my mother of having extra marital affairs.

Sincerely, he isn't off the target as my mother specialises in dating younger men.

Severally my father has had to send some young men away from our premises, who come asking to be employed as drivers. Since I spent the better part of my life away from home: entered into boarding school from JSS 1, beyond what I experience during the holidays and the complaints of my younger ones, I can't say categorically that I know my mother very well.
All I know is that she is very fashionable and beautiful as well as a socialite. Unlike my father who is more into his children and home, my mother doesn't care much about us.

We have all come to accept her for whom she is and the times I am at home or when my father comes to visit me in school. I always tell him not to bother too much about my mother. I often tell him that after 26 years as a couple he should be used to her ways by now.

It is an open secret that my father is the one keeping the marriage; my mother doesn't care one bit about it. As a child, can't recall when she went to the kitchen to cook, I don't even know what the taste of her food is like. She is that bad.

Although I have always known my mother's weakness for young virile men, not once did it occur to me that my mother is capable of sleeping with my own boyfriend.

About three months ago, I brought my fiancé home to meet my parents. He finished before me and travelled to England to further his studies. He came back about four months ago to ask for my hand in marriage. Since his parents were familiar with me, I brought him home to inform my parents of our intentions to spend the rest of our lives together. My father has also met him while he was still in school.

My mother was at home on the day he came. We all agreed on the day his parents would come to meet mine. Three weeks after, they came for formal introduction and to agree on a date for the introduction and wedding.

It was during the period of our wedding planning that I ran into my mother and fiancé coming out of a hotel close to the house of the caterer I contracted for the wedding.

While I was still trying to fathom what both of them could be doing in that place, my mother oblivious of who might be looking gave him a quick peck on his lips before zooming off in her car.

I didn't need to be told what they had gone to do in the hotel. My boyfriend didn't know what to say when I called out his name. Right there and then he confessed and started begging for my forgiveness. He claimed not to know how it all happened; that all he remembers is my mother inviting him over for discussions concerning the wedding plans.

I am pained and so confused. Our wedding is on December 18. I want to end it all. There is no way I can go ahead with a wedding to the man who has slept with my mother. The worst thing is my mother's attitude. Even when I confronted her with what she had done, her attitude was 'so what!'

My boyfriend and his best man have been pleading with me. My chief bridesmaid who has been my friend since our childhood is of the opinion that my mother must have charmed my boyfriend and that the best way to deal with her is to forgive my boyfriend and go ahead with the marriage.

I am so confused. I haven't told my father anything since I don't want to hurt him more than she has hurt him all these years. Please tell me what to do. He is the only man I have ever fallen in love with in all my life. We have been together for five years and not once has he cheated on me. Even he was away, he kept calling me religiously everyday for the 18 months he was abroad. Once he sent money down for me to visit him. He has been that dedicated to me. He is still insisting he doesn't know how he ended up in the hotel with my mother.

The New Iyaloja Of Lagos State-Tinubu's Daughter Crowned

Folashade Tinubu Ojo, the first daughter of former Lagos State governor, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has been crowned the new Iyaloja of Lagos State and the President General of the Market Men and Women of Nigeria.
The installation took place today at the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
Her appointment in July 2013, was witnessed and endorsed by market leaders of all the 57 local governments in Lagos State but it was however trailed with controversies and condemnation.

Bola Tinubu’s mother, Abibat Mogaji held the position before she passed away recently and appointed her as successor.
But wait a minute, is the seat now permanently customized for Tinubu's family? Good Question.

Mischievous Ted Cruz: He insults us, now he ‘apologises’ with what seem to be another insult!

Sen Ted Cruz Issues statement on Nigeria
After saying Nigerian scammers have been hired to run the Obama Care website, Ted appolizes with any bomb.
1. It’s unfortunate that we’re living in a time where just about every joke can be misconstrued to cause offense to someone.
2. To the good people of Nigeria — a beautiful nation where my wife lived briefly as the child of missionaries — no offense was intended.
3. I am fully appreciative of the range of mutual economic and security interests that make Nigeria an important friend to the United States.
4. And even to those few unscrupulous email scammers who were the subject of the joke, I apologize to you for the unfair comparison to the utterly dysfunctional Obamacare website.
And he wants to run for president come 2016? Born in Canada? lets see how you would do that.

First Lady Of Enugu State, Begs Human Rights Groups To Release Her From House Arrest Imposed By Her Husband

This story by SaharaReporters, New York is just crazy but you be the judge.

Clara Chime, the First Lady of Enugu State, says Governor Sullivan Chime, has placed her under house arrest, and has cried out for assistance to reach human rights bodies to rescue her.

In a letter dripping with pain and suffering, Mrs. Chime disclosed that she married Mr. Chime in October 2008 but that she has been unable to share the matrimonial bed with him for over four years.
Describing her desperate situation, she said that even President Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Patience Jonathan have intervened with her husband without success.
“My father is late, my Mum and few of my siblings are confused and have done all kinds of prayers they know of, 3 of my siblings prefers me dead than to see me leave the Government house.  He treats my Mum and my siblings bad,” she wrote.

The Enugu State First Lady said she has been introduced to two psychiatrists whose names she gave as Dr. Onwukwe and Dr. Agumo, who have prescribed “all kinds of drugs that ends up keeping me acute depressed and also drives me into hallucinations.”
The doctors, she noted, are scared of her husband the Governor, to whom nobody can tell the truth.
According to the letter, the Catholic Bishop of Enugu state (Callistus Onaga), and top priests have come to intervene, as have the President and the First Lady of the nation, without success.

Mrs. Chime further complains that Governor Chime has ordered her to leave with her four-year old son whom she conceived before their wedding.  However, the governor, according to her, later threatened to disown the boy should she leave with him.
“He has told everyone he can reach that there is no marriage between us that I can leave if I wish to but whenever I plan to leave he instructs them to lock me in.  I have told him through Sms that I will leave my son behind and leave alone but still he instructed his securities to lock me inside the house.”

Mrs. Chime further complains she has lost touch with the real world and all that makes her beautiful because of the side effects of the drugs she is taking, stressing that she is under house arrest for committing no crime.
Of the situation in Government House, she said, “He does not take care of me personally, the government gives me allowance to run the house and that’s where I save little from to take care of my elf, my Mum and few of my siblings,” she said in the letter.  He shut me out of his life years ago; I don’t have access to his apartment. The problem is enormous; I don’t know where to start to explain from.”

She said that even the security detail in the lodge has resorted to praying for her, while the few that can be bought with money are taking advantage of the situation.
“Police and SS men have been instructed by Br Sullivan Chime to confine me in a place for a long time now against my wish [but] it is my wish to leave these premises,” she said, begging, “Please assist me to reach to the human rights and say to them to please come hastily and release me.”

'Boko Haram members are only armed bandits'

Malam Bukar Modu, a detained Boko Haram member, said that the group had nothing to do with Islam, as it was mainly involved in armed banditry, looting and killing of innocent people.
Modu, who was captured on October 6 after the group's early morning attack on Muslim worshippers in Damboa, Borno, said this in Maiduguri on Saturday.

He told newsmen that the group succeeded in attacking innocent people during their operations.

"We went on a mission to attack people in Damboa on October 6, a few days to the last Sallah celebration.
"We shot many people but I was also shot in the leg during the operation; I later became unconscious.
"My people took me away at the end of the operation but they decided to dump me in a nearby bush because they thought I was dead.

"I regained my consciousness in the morning before I was apprehended by security agents, who provided food for me and took care of my bullet wounds,'' he said.
Modu said that he was recruited into the group by his cousin about a year ago.
"He used to keep his gun in our compound in Maiduguri. One day, he said that he was not comfortable with me being outside the group because I knew all his secrets.
"He gave me two options: to either join the group or be killed; so, I had no other option than to join the group,'' he said.

Modu said that he was given an "express training’’ on the handling of AK 47 rifle as soon as he joined the group.
"We were always given orders to attack individuals without questioning until we finally relocated to Marte in Marte Local Government Area of Borno during the middle of this year,'' he said.
Modu said that his group comprised about 150 militants, who took refuge in a nearby bush after the military invasion of Marte camp.

"We were kept in the bush by our commanders; sometimes, we survived on filthy water because we did not have access to safe water and we barely had something to eat,'' he said.
Modu said that most of the "foot soldiers’’ of the Boko Haram group had wanted to abscond but they could not do so because of the fear of being caught and executed.

"Our commanders usually conduct roll-calls on a daily basis to prevent anybody from running away; once you are caught, the penalty is death,'' he said.
Modu said that many "foot soldiers,’’ who tried to escape at the camp, were summarily executed.

"Any time we carry out an attack in a place, we steal food, drugs, money and everything we need.
"Sometimes, I feel guilty of committing crimes against God but our commanders always tell us that it is God's work that we are doing.

"It is a terrible thing to be a member of  the group but many foot soldiers like me cannot leave for fear of being killed,’’ Modu added.

Former religious skeptic believes she talked to God 9 minutes she was dead

An Oklahoma woman says she's a firm believer in God after meeting him during the nine minutes she died in 2009.

Crystal McVea is a 36-year-old married school teacher and mother of four who didn't quite believe in God for most of her life.

At the age of three, McVea started to be sexually abused by her drug and alcohol-addicted step father and that abuse continued by him and others until the age of 12.
Those experiences made her second guess from a young age whether or not God existed, and if he did, whether he loved her.

'I saw a lot of things that children shouldn't see,' she told WAFF. 'I always believed that God had abandoned me, that he didn't save me, that he didn't love me and I questioned if he was real.'
Then, when she was a teenager, she had an abortion. A choice she believed cemented her position as a sinner.
'After that abortion I thought, "I've done it now - if he was real, he could never love me now,"'

In December 2009, McVea was taken to the hospital to be treated for pancreatitis when she was accidentally overdosed on pain medication.
The last thing McVea remembers is being given the drugs and falling asleep. For the next nine minutes, doctors struggled to revive her as her heart stopped beating.
McVea says she was in a more peaceful place. After closing her eyes in the hospital, the next thing she remembers is waking up in heaven.

'I was standing in the most gorgeous light and instantly I recognized where I was. I knew who I was, I knew where I was...' she recalls.
In heaven, time seemed to stand still. She recalls being in the presence of two angels - though they didn't look like anyone she had ever met on earth.
At one point, God presented himself to her, but not in human form. Still she knew who he was and says that she could feel his presence with much more than the five senses she had on earth. They didn't even need to communicate with words.

One of the things she remembers most about the experience was God conjuring up the image of a young girl, laughing and playing.
Looking back on the experience, she believes that girl was a version of herself before the sexual abuse made her lose faith.

Being in the presence of God and seeing that innocent version of herself, the weight was lifted from her dark past.
'I just remember I felt free from all the lies I had lived and the untruth that God didn't love me,' she told the New York Daily News.
She felt so overcome with happiness that when he asked her if she wanted to go back to her husband and four children, she opted to stay in heaven. She says God assured her that they would be fine without her.

It was only when she heard her mother calling out from her hospital bedside that she changed her mind.
'I just felt such pity (for my mom) and I turned around to find her voice - and (God) said, "Tell them what you can remember"' she recalled.
And just like that, she was back in her hospital room - miraculously alive again.

Kim Kardashian 'confirms that stepfather Bruce Jenner will give her away at her third wedding to Kanye West'

Kim Kardashian has reportedly confirmed that Bruce Jenner will walk her down the aisle when she marries Kanye West.

The 33-year-old beauty - who has four-month-old daughter North with her new fiance - has put speculation to rest that her stepfather won't give her away on her big day following his split from her mother Kris Jenner after 22 years of marriage.

Kim confirmed that Bruce, 63, will walk her down the aisle, much like he did during her 2011 wedding to second husband Kris Humphries.

Bruce was conspicuous by his absence when the entire Kardashian family attended Kim and Kanye's engagement at AT&T Park stadium in San Francisco, California, earlier this week, fueling speculation he won't be involved in the wedding.
Kim hasn't begun planning the nuptials just yet but she insists she will do whatever the Power rapper wants.

She told People.com: 'We honestly haven't had a moment to talk about it or even breathe, so we haven't really talked about it, but whatever he wants.'

According to UK Scrabble expert and Countdown champion Barry Grossman, there are at least 100 different tips players can use to win, or at least boost their overall score.

These include how to remember unusual words, why two-letter words, especially involving the 'X' tile, are so important and when it is acceptable to use proper nouns, which are usually banned.
In his book, 101 Ways to Win at Scrabble, Grossman explains that although proper nouns aren't generally accepted, there are some exceptions.

For example, his own name Barry can be used as another word for a blunder or mistake. It is Australian slang.
Equally 'danny' and plural 'dannies', is acceptable to describe a child's hand.
Elsewhere in his book, Grossman explains that two-letter words are important because they can be used to get rid of tiles towards the end of the game, but they can also be used to connect words.

He goes on to say the 'X' tile, worth eight points in the game, either preceded or succeeded by a vowel gives a high-scoring combination for a low number of tiles used. These include 'ax', 'ex', 'xi' and 'xu'.
Grossman's book adds that there are a handful of four-letter words that don't contain any vowels that are also accepted in Scrabble.

These include psst, pfft, brrr and grrl - although Grossman points out that only these spellings are accepted, and extra 'F's, 'R's and 'S' can't be added.
Another way to steal points from the words already placed on the board by opponents, as listed in Grossman's book, is to take advantage of prefixes and suffixes.

These included 'ed', 'ing' and adding the letter S to the end of words, yet Grossman adds the suffix 'ish' is rare and equally effective, especially on words such as pixyish.
The letter 'S' and the blank tile should be used sparingly, according to Grossman's book. An S, for example, should only be used when adding it increases the overall score by around five points, otherwise it's a 'waste'.

Another key thing to remember is that the letter 'Q' doesn't always need to be followed by a 'U'. In the two-letter list the word QI is 'a variant of chi'. While Qat (a variant spelling of the word khat; an evergreen shrub), Qaid (a Muslim chief) and sheqalim (the plural of sheqel, the currency of Israel) are examples of longer words where this technique can be used.

Grossman suggests the more words in a person's vocabulary, the better they are at Scrabble, and knowing the more rare and unusual words can benefit the most.
He doesn't insist players learn the dictionary, but it is worthwhile familiarising themselves with some of these unusual words, or words that use unusual letter combinations including epopoeia, an epic poem, and tchick, a clicking sound.

For words that are difficult to spell, Grossman suggests creating a mnemonic to help players remember them, such as 'John Is Always Out' for the word jiao, a monetary unit in China.
Ultimately, Grossman claims that sometimes tiles need to be swapped, which means that player misses a go, but they may get a better selection of letters and a higher score as a result.

AC Milan hire former policeman for Balotelli

AC Milan have assigned a former policeman to act as minder to Mario Balotelli in a bid to keep the unpredictable striker out of trouble.

The Italian forward regularly courts controversy, most recently for breaking a reporter's microphone in Naples and breaking rules by leaving the San Siro without wearing official club uniform or colours.

Milan hope that Filippo Ferri, a former police officer who was prohibited from work for his part in the heavy handed treatment of protestors at the G8 summit in Genoa 2001, will be able to keep Balotelli on the straight and narrow, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Ferri is well known within the Serie A club as he is already employed as a security advisor and will be
tasked with keeping Balotelli off the front pages.

However, the president of the Italian Football Association (FIGC), Giancarlo Abete, says Ferri will not be needed when the forward is on international duty.
'Balotelli is one of us and, within the national team, everybody assists each other,' he said. 'In any case, it’s up to his club to evaluate this.'

Marriage DOES indeed benefit your wealth, health and children...Experts

Married couples enjoy far greater wealth and health than those who cohabit, an influential think-tank revealed yesterday.

They are more likely to own their home, have better jobs and be more highly educated – and less likely to struggle to pay the bills.
They have less chance of splitting up and their children are less likely to smoke or take drugs, a report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies said.

One piece of research showed that married parents of a three-year-old were twice as likely as cohabiting couples to be in the wealthiest fifth of families. They were half as likely to be in the poorest fifth.

Married fathers were more than twice as likely as cohabiting fathers to have a professional occupation and in the sample studied 86 per cent of married couples were homeowners compared with 54 per cent of cohabitees.

The study found that teenagers whose parents cohabit were 10 per cent more likely to smoke or use cannabis by the age of 16 than children from married families
.
The IFS admitted that no reason for the difference could be detected and that one explanation may be the positive effect on youngsters of being brought up by parents who are married.
The same positive effect of marriage could explain why married people stick together while cohabitees do not, it said. This goes against a previous IFS finding that ‘marriage itself appears to confer little, if any, benefit in terms of child development’.

Lamar Odom Reveals Why He Skipped Kim Kardashian's Proposal

Lamar Odom tells TMZ he hasn't been blackballed from the Kardashian family -- and WAS invited to Kanye's big proposal to Kim -- but he CHOSE not to go because he had better things to do that night.

It was just one of the topics Lamar addressed on his way out of the Spitting Chicken Cantina in Sherman Oaks, CA last night ... telling us about his friendship with Kobe, his relationship with his dad and his battle to get back into the NBA.
In fact, L.O. says he believes he's back in playing shape -- telling us, "I can play a basketball game and probably play really well."

He wanted to prove it by showing off his physique -- jokingly asking, "Do you wanna see me with my shirt off or my pants down?"

Don't worry, he didn't follow through on his offer.

In the end, Lamar couldn't have been nicer .... but something still seems off.

Leave the guy alone. Kanye is sure to put Kim on the right track to being an Un-Kardashian for real.

French may lose Ibra, Falcao and Cavani over super tax laws

Clubs in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 are to go on strike for one weekend next month in protest at the French government’s ‘super tax’.
The nation’s Professional Clubs’ Union (UCPF) announced on Thursday there would be no matches staged on the weekend of November 29-December 2.

'There will be a weekend without games,' said UCPF president Jean-Pierre Louvel.
Under the proposal, companies, rather than individuals, will be liable to pay the 75 per cent tax rate for the part of employees’ annual salaries that exceed one million euros.

The issue is to be discussed in parliament, but the fear among clubs is that it will dissuade players from playing their football in France and they will instead seek employment elsewhere.
'I agree with the determination of the French clubs,' added Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) president Frederic Thiriez in remarks reported by L’Equipe.

The clubs had initially hoped they would be exempt, but sports minister Valerie Fourneyron confirmed last month that that would not be the case.

75% tax, that crazy men. What is left?
